Winners of the Great Baltic Tour awarded prizes

On November 6th, Reval Hotel Lietuva hosted the closing conference for the project the Great Baltic Tour. The conference presented results of this year’s international tourism project and held a prize draw for the big winners of the Project. The main prize went to a participant from Lithuania Laura Rakutienė. Three prizes of the Baltic States went to Linda IImjarm (Estonia), Dace Stalaza (Latvia), and Arnas Radzevičius (Lithuania).
“The Great Baltic Tour is one of the most fascinating and successful projects in the recent years organized by the Lithuanian State Department of Tourism, the Latvian National Tourism Development Agency, and the Estonian Tourism Board for the third year. The Project strives to promote domestic tourism, attract more tourists to the Baltic States, and shape the image of the region as full of tourism opportunities,” says Nijolė Kliokienė, Director of the State Department of Tourism.
Lithuanian results of the Projected were presented by Ieva Lukšėnaitė, Chief Specialist of the Marketing Division at the State Department of Tourism. According to Ms Lukšėnaitė, involvement of participants was very active – it is evident not only from the number of travellers who registered on line (as many as 25 thousand people), but also from significantly increased visitor flows as pointed out by the curators of the sites included in the Project.
Results presented by project representatives Maija Poca, Latvian National Tourism Development Agency, and Elin Priks, Estonian Tourism Board, gave even more reason to celebrate – according to the representatives of the two countries, the Project, which included sites in all three Baltic States, attracted dedicated travellers from all three countries.
Most active participants who visited all sites of the Great Baltic Tour were awarded diplomas. Organizers and sponsors of the Project gave away the main prize – weekend trip for two to a preferred European city on a direct flight with AirBaltic Airlines. Travellers of the Project who visited at least five sites in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia won Baltic prizes, which included plane tickets and weekend stay in a capital city of a neighbouring Baltic State (for Lithuanians it was Estonian or Latvian capital).
The most active participants of the Project won a number of additional prizes through a prize draw. For example, Juris Zvirgzdinš from Latvia won romantic weekend at Mežotne Castle; Vaiva Pranculytė from Lithuania a flight with hot air balloon; Anneli Madissoo from Estonia won wellness weekend in Meresuu and SPA; Gintaras Burokas from Lithuania – jump with parachute from a 1000 metres height. These are only a fraction of the prizes given away to the travellers of the Great Baltic Tour. Other prizes included stay at the guest house Senasis paštas in Druskininkai, stay for two at a five-star hotel Le Meridien Vilnius with access to wellness and beauty centre Oasis, dinner at the restaurant Remus in Trakai, bicycle and many more.
The Project included 30 sites, ten in each country. As far as popularity of the Lithuanian sites is concerned, the most visited destination was the Valley of Singing Stones Madzuchai – the largest in Europe, a Japanese garden shaped by the hands of Japanese themselves. The travellers highlighted Bauska Castle as one of the most interesting Latvian sites which opened is doors to visitors after restoration effort just before the launch of the Project. Most frequented site in Estonia was Pamse Estate surrounded by the incredible Lahema National Park.
During spare time people who heard about or visited the sites included in the Project were keen to share moments and relive their experiences from the Great Baltic Tour on the project’s website at www.greatbaltic.eu. On the forum of the website you will find a participant of the project sharing his experience: “It was amazing. The Great Tour was the most important event of this summer and of the entire year and, most importantly, gave us so many everlasting memories.”
This year the Great Baltic Tour coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the Baltic Way when in August of 1989 people of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia joined their hands in one line to declare their united desire for freedom. This is a project of great importance included on the Lithuanian Government’s approved programme.
