Ahead of the active tourist season, the Vidzeme Tourism Association has published the first ever maps of Latvian cycling routes.
The maps include information about the best marked cycling routes in the country, as well as cycling paths. The brochures also includes information about the EuroVelo 13 (The Iron Curtain Trail) route in coastal Latvia, as well as national, regional and local cycling routes, while at the same time highlighting the cultural heritage, natural beauty and uniqueness of Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Zemgale and Latgale provinces.
The brochures/maps have currently been published in Latvian and English, but thanks to support from the Latvian Tourism Development Agency (TAVA) they will also be published in German and Dutch.
More detailed information about Latvian cycling routes can be found on the Vidzeme Tourism Association’s home-page - www.vidzeme.com/velokarte
Work on the development of the EuroVelo 13, or Iron Curtain Trail, cycling route began in 2009. The route symbolizes the division between East and West – territories which were split more than 70 years ago before the Cold War. The route provides a unique opportunity for cyclists to visit various historical and military heritage sites, as well as lesser known tourism objects.
