Riga International Airport celebrates its 40th anniversary

Riga International Airport celebrates its 40th anniversary this week. A special projection of light on the facade of the terminal is the airport’s greeting to its employees, passengers and visitors.

It should be noted that the current airport of Riga was put into operation on 10 October 1974.

The projection of light features the most popular types of aircraft that have flown to and from Riga over these four decades. This special greeting of the airport will be seen by every viewer for two weeks, every day, in the dark hours from 4.00 to 7.00 a.m., and from 19.00 to midnight.

“The airport marks a significant anniversary, and with this projection of light we share our jubilee celebration with our passengers, business partners and visitors,” said Aldis Mūrnieks, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport.

The light projection was created jointly with the artistic partnership “I DID IT”.

Moreover, in the public area of Departures C of the airport the exhibition of photographs dating back to the beginnings of the terminal will be open to visitors till the end of 2014.

Currently, Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltics, both in terms of passenger traffic and cargo turnover. Passengers can fly from Riga to 83 destinations.
