Orchid days 2014 in the Botanical Garden of the Univeristy of Latvia

September 6-14, the Botanical Gardens of the University of Latvia will be featuring a most striking and alluring flower – the orchid. The tilandsia and several other exotic plants will also bask in the spotlight, and visitors will have the chance to take part in master classes, consult with experts and make purchases.

The  local Latvian Orchid Association will be joined by the Lithuanian Orchid Club for this event, with the most beautiful orchids  displayed in the foyer of the Palm House, including Paphiopedilum helenae. This variety was discovered in north Vietnam by the noted Russian environmental scientist Leonid Averyanov.  Sure to be of interest – the many tilandsias out of the wilds of Mexico, Central/South America, also the southern U.S.

Among the supplemental events – on September 6 and 13, both days at 1 p.m., a course will be held in re-planting flowers. It must be mentioned here that even though the orchid is having its day (or week) at the Gardens, don’t bypass the dahlias in bloom!
