Riga. As the demand for employees with technical skills and engineering knowledge increases and since the Latvian airline airBaltic continues to expand, the company is launching a campaign to attract aircraft maintenance mechanics and technicians across Latvia, covering its regions. The beginning of the campaign takes place in the East of the country, in Latgale. Specialists and future professionals with an experience in aviation as well as in other areas of technical work are welcome to apply.
Andris Vaivads, Senior Vice President Technical Operations at airBaltic: “As of now, there are more than 400 employees in the airBaltic Technical Department, working in sub-departments of engineering, logistics and production. However, as it is planned to double the amount of employees due to the company’s expansion in 2023 and further years, we are looking for new team members.”
“This campaign is regionally oriented, as we know that there are many skilled technical work specialists in Latvia, also outside the capital. Of course, not everyone is related to aviation, but due to experience in other fields, even in the level of self-taught, people have a good basic knowledge. It can be adjusted and perfected in aviation. Here we already have many successful examples among our employees, thus we are looking for additional forces. Moreover, the future holds many exciting things for airBaltic – the growing fleet of Airbus A220-300, C-Check maintenance, and a new hangar in Riga are just a few of them. Our daily work environment is very dynamic and never gets monotonous or boring. Therefore, we will be glad to meet more and more new specialists,” Vaivads added.
Today, members of 30 nationalities work at airBaltic, including the Technical Department. This campaign is also addressing Ukrainians in Latvia, as since the beginning of the war, 50 Ukrainians have become employees of the airline.
The minimum requirements for the Mechanic position are: technical specialization (not in the aviation industry) with documented experience, readiness to obtain the EASA Part-66 Basic Training Cat.B1.1/ B2 program, provided by airBaltic. During employment, the main criteria for evaluating employee performance will be the complexity of performed tasks; quality of performed maintenance; decision-making ability; work ethics and teamwork; initiative.
