The National Botanic Garden of Latvia is one of the most popular places of recreation in Riga – it is possible to explore the compact but very information-intensive area at a slow pace, to get acquainted with plants from all over the world, as well as to simply enjoy the nature in the centre of urban life. It is also possible to find here the only Tropical Butterfly House in the Baltic States with butterflies from South America, Asia and Africa tropical jungle.
Everyone has an opportunity to experience tropical exoticism at the Tropical Butterfly House of the Botanical Garden: to feel flutter of a butterfly's wings, herbal scent and jungle climate. Wingspan of the largest butterflies is comparable with two large palms.
It is interesting that not only butterflies are in different colors and sizes, but their caterpillars also are diverse – some even resemble jewels. Through the incubator window it is also possible to watch the magical butterfly hatching process.
Butterfly House is open throughout the summer; however, one has to bear in mind that working hours differ from the working hours of the Botanical Garden.
The Butterfly House is open for visitors:
In May, June, July, August, and September from 11:00 to 19:00
In March and October from 11:00 to 16:30
