On 14th February, the day of all lovers across the world, Ventspils Theatre House "Juras varti" is proud to present a concert of the American blues diva Angela Brown and Latvian Blues Band.
It should be noted that this will be the only joint concert of the above artists in Latvia and a real feast for music gourmands.
The singer Angela Brown was born in Chicago (USA). She began her musical career by singing gospel music in church and performing with school choirs. Angela first encountered the blues around 1980 when she played the biographical role of Gertrude "Ma" Rainey in a stage musical. Inspired by the music, Angela began to hone her craft by appearing in numerous Chicago blues clubs where she got an inimitable experience and shared the stage with such artists as Blind John Davis, Pinetop Perkins, B.B. King and Georgie Fame, just to name a few. Her debut recordings were released in 1983, and the first album under her own name was made in 1987.
Angela Brown has a powerful voice that is well-suited to meet the different interpretations of modern blues. She has become a popular attraction at different blues festivals all over the world not only vocally but also for her on-stage presence and oomph.
Latvian Blues Band (LBB) is one of the best-known Latvian bands around the world. Since 2000, the band's home has been the Bites Blues Club – the only blues club in Riga and the Baltics where LBB has performed side by side with countless blues artists, including John Primer, Carlos Johnson, Bob Margolin, Carey Bell, Sugar Ray Norcia, Monster Mike Welch, Darrell Nulisch, Duke Robillard, Bruce Katz, Bryan Lee, Al Coplay, Phill Guy, Rico McFarland, Zora Young, and many others. In 2009, LBB gained a convincing victory in the "Baltic Blues Challenge" competition held in the German town of Eutin and earned a spot at the 2010 International Blues Challenge finals, an annual event in Memphis, United States which has been organized by "The Blues Foundation", an umbrella organization for blues societies worldwide, for more than a quarter of a century. In August 2011, LBB participated in one of the largest festivals in Switzerland as the concert closer, sharing the stage with the legendary English rock band "Status Quo".
Starting January 14, tickets are on sale at the Theatre House "Juras varti", booking offices of "Bilesu Serviss" and online at
