The Tall Ships' Races Baltic 2009 volunteer selection draws to a close

200 Days remaining to the arrival of the Tall Ships‘ Races Baltic 2009 in Klaipeda seaport was the reason for the press conference held by the Organization Committee of the regatta on January 14th, 2009. The meeting with press took place in the Klaipeda University training sailing ship „Brabander“ moored near the Klaipeda Castle.

More than 200 applications for the position of volunteer have arrived, and the registration is to be closed on February 1st. The majority of the applicants are the young people (up to 25 yrs of age) from Klaipeda and other Western Lithuanian cities; however some older citizens, including senior persons have applied for the volunteer position. After training session which will take place in spring, 2009 the lucky 150 will be selected to guide the sailing ships when they will arrive to Klaipeda.

As the countdown to the regatta was launched at the symbolic clock located near „Acropolis“ mall, it was announced that 74 sailing ships have already confirmed their arrival to Klaipeda next August, including 14 largest Class A sailing ships, 11 Class B ships and 49 Class C and D yachts in total.
