New Tallinn Airport to be named after Lennart Meri

Tallinn Airport was thoroughly renovated as a result of the works that took two years to complete. The passenger terminal was significantly expanded and the air traffic area was reconstructed. The Government of Estonia has also decided to name Tallinn Airport after Lennart Meri.

The newly renovated airport can service up to 2.5 million passengers per year. Approximately 14,000 square meters of useful space was added to the passenger terminal of the airport as a result of renovation and expansion. The terminal building was modernised and extended by 18 metres in both the northerly and southerly directions and a gallery that is 200 metres long and 27 metres wide was built in the middle. It connects all gates and gives the terminal a T-shape. The check-in area was also expanded and a new VIP complex was established in the airport. There are separate waiting areas for passengers travelling inside and outside the Schengen region. The new airport also offers more opportunities for eating and shopping. The new airport also has a play area for travelling children.

Reconstruction of the air traffic area improved environmental friendliness and safety in the airport and took aviation safety and security to a new level.

Tallinn Airport will be named after Lennart Meri on the anniversary of the President’s 80th birthday on 29 March 2009. Meri was the President of Estonia from 1992 to 2001 and a well-known supporter of international communication.

The website of Tallinn Airport, which can be viewed on www.tallinn-airport.ee, was also given a new appearance and content.
