Kalamaja Park in Tallinn

A formal opening of the historical Kalamaja Park in Tallinn after reconstruction took place on July 21, 2009. The overall area is 6.7 hectares. Everyone has an opportunity to visit the park from 6.00 am to 11.00pm, but at night the gate will be closed.

The Kalamaja Park is located in a calm and rather elitist region, close to the centre of the city, and it exists already since middle of 19th century. It is worth to mention that there is also a cemetery and many buildings with gardens in the territory of the park. In 1950s the cemetery was destroyed.

As a result of reconstruction a fence of the park, bell-tower, and fountains were restored, as well as stairs were made and new gate was set. The territory of the cemetery was strictly taken into account and the avenue and system of paths was practically maintained during the reconstruction. The reconstruction of the park cost 28.4 million Estonian kroons.

An information kiosk is built up near the park’s gate. There you can get all information about the developmental process of the historical park, as well as view ancient photographs and get acquainted with the list of persons, buried in the cemetery.

The park has six entrances for people and one gate for vehicles. There is also a playground for children close to the Bell-tower.
