Tallinn: The Days of National Cultures offer a diverse program

Tallinn is currently hosting the Days of National Cultures festival, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Estonia’s national minorities. The program includes workshops, cultural evenings, language cafés, exhibitions, concerts, and much more. The event will culminate on September 24 with the celebration of Estonia's National Minorities Day.

According to Tallinn's Deputy Mayor Kaarel Oja, nearly half of the city's population is made up of people from non-Estonian ethnic backgrounds. "The Days of National Cultures offer a fantastic opportunity to showcase Tallinn's multicultural community and introduce residents and visitors to the customs and traditions of the city's various ethnic groups. Through such events, we enrich our shared cultural space and promote understanding and collaboration between cultures," added Oja.

Today, September 19, participants can still join language cafés at libraries, browse a foreign-language book market, or listen to American-born writer Justin Petrone’s travel tales and a lecture by artist Valeri Laur.

The upcoming weekend is filled with special events. On Friday, the Azerbaijani Cultural Day will be celebrated at the House of the Blackheads, and on Saturday, Tallinna Rahvaülikool and the Estonian Folklore Council will host Venezuela Day at their building in Pelgulinn. The program includes a Spanish language workshop, a Venezuelan games workshop, and Fiesta Venezolana—a Venezuelan celebration with traditional food and music. At the Russian Cultural Center, free concerts will showcase the performances of various singing and dance groups.

On Tuesday, September 24, the traditional Deputy Mayor’s reception will be held to celebrate Estonia's National Minorities Day. Representatives of national minority cultural societies and partners from the Days of National Cultures program have been invited to the reception to thank them for their contributions to promoting cultures and fostering connections between different communities.

The full program for the Days of National Cultures is available HERE. Most events are free of charge.
