The main acts of Jõulujazz are the Spanish flamenco star Ana Salazar, the French vocal group Voice Messengers and the leader of M-Pact Britt Quentin, who will perform at a joint concert with a new Estonian vocal sextet Estonian Voices.
At the concert Canta a Piaf the charming Spanish singer-actor-dancer Ana Salazari will perform the songs of the French chanson legend Edith Piaf in Spanish and in the rhythms of flamenco. There are two vocal ensembles of top class at the festival – first time performing in Estonia is the French Voice Messengers, who follow the best traditions of world vocal jazz, offer delicate harmonies and fascinating stage show. The Estonian young generation vocal group Estonian Voices will present a new programme. From the beginning of the year Britt Quentin, the USA based singer-arranger, leader of M-Pact and currently performing Michael Jackson in London’s West End production, has been working with Estonian musicians. The joint concerts by Estonian Voices and Britt Quentin belong to the programme of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011.
As a rising star among Jõulujazz vocalists the Estonian singer from Switzerland Ingrid Lukas has to be mentioned, whose second album „Silver Secrets“ is released by Universal label in cooperation with the well-known Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson. With a new band and new programme Lukas will perform at five concerts all over Estonia.
European top musicians will come to Jõulujazz with the band Five Senses – Kristjan Randalu will perform together with the French guitar virtuoso and sound magician Nguyên Lê, saxophone duo Shorn-Puntin from Germany and Polish multi-instrumentalist Bodek Janke. The creator of Norwegian new jazz concept, keyboards virtuoso Bugge Wesseltoft will offer a quiet heartfelt traditional Christmas programme on solo piano. The concert by Finnish top saxophone player Mikko Innanen and his Gourmet’ sextet will fill the NO99 jazz club with rhythmic and humorous music.
Jõulujazz will present several new projects by Estonian musicians. Andres Mustonen Crossover Quartet’s new CD Aria was received with admiration by the international professionals during Tallinn Jazz Weekend. In the Christmas programme classics will meet jazz in a cosy way. A unique duo of zither and guitar of Tuule Kann and Jaak Sooäär has expanded their repertoire and will bring new songs and stories from their new album to the festival. Among Estonian artists performing at the Jõulujazz concerts are Meelis Vint and Hanna-Liina Võsa. There is even a family concert where the children from Estonian Radio’s song studio led by Kadri Hunt will perform winter songs together with Siim Aimla’s band and a young superstar Birgit Õigemeel, joined by clowns Piip and Tuut.
