For the ninth time already city of Kuressaare will host the Saaremaa Opera Festival. Big opera tent holding about 2000 spectators will be set up in the yard of the 13th century Kuressaare Episcopal Castle.
This year everyone will have a chance to enjoy various operas and concerts, such as Swan Bone City, The Pearl Fishers, Otello, King Roger, From Poland with Love, Alexela Opera gala, Bumpy and Wroclaw opera.

The first opera festival in Estonia was born in 1999 in Kuressaare (as Kuressaare Opera Days, artistic director Liudmilla Toon), on the Island of Saaremaa. Festival is held at the medieval Episcopal Castle of Kuressaare, the yard and walls of the castle are suitable for building up an opera house up to 2000 spectators.Since 2008, the festival is organised by Eesti Kontsert.
By now the companies of Estonian NO and Vanemuine Theatre, Black American Opera (Broadway), Latvian National Opera, NemerovitshDantshenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, Ankara State Opera and Ballet Theatre, Moscow Helikon Opera and opera companies from Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi (Georgia), Ukrainian National Opera and Teatro di Milano (Italy) have presented their best productions in Saaremaa.
Soloists and conductors like Neeme Järvi, Eri Klas, Jose Cura, Karita Mattila, Soile Isokoski, Anna Aglatova, Hibla Gerzmava, Matti Salminen, Jaakko Ryhänen, Jorma Hynninen, Ain Anger, Annely Peebo, Kristine Gailite, Mario Zeffiri, Carlos Moreno, Egils Silins, Johnny Van Hal, Tatiana Anisimova, Paata Burchuladze and many others have starred at Saaremaa Opera Festival.
