POTAMI – The First Contemporary Greek Cuisine Restaurant Opens in Riga

POTAMI, a Greek restaurant where authentic culinary traditions meet a refined, modern interior and the warmth of the Mediterranean, has opened its doors in Riga, on the Daugava riverbank (Eksporta iela 3a).
The POTAMI menu is based on the foundational traditions of Greek cuisine. Key ingredients — from olive oil and yogurt to seafood and aromatic herbs — are sourced directly from various regions of Greece, ensuring genuine authenticity in every dish.

Kaspars Jansons, the author of the menu and the restaurant’s head chef, says:
“Greek cuisine has always inspired me — not only with its flavors but with its philosophy: respect for the product, generosity, and simplicity in presentation. We wanted to create a place where Greek authenticity meets fresh perspectives. Here, taste comes first, followed by technique and honest, high-quality ingredients. Our goal is to offer guests not just a meal, but the feeling that sunny Greece has arrived in Riga.”

The restaurant’s interior was designed by renowned Latvian designer Oskars Skara, who drew inspiration from the natural beauty and rugged aesthetic of the Aegean Sea. The space deliberately avoids clichés, offering an original and elegant interpretation of the Mediterranean style. A mosaic-style floor made of marble and granite fragments evokes the charm of an old village square. Cliff-textured walls bring a sense of peace and depth from the Greek coastline. A ceiling meadow made of straw adds a surreal, surprising, yet cozy touch. The interior features natural materials — limestone, straw, and handcrafted ceramics.

POTAMI includes a dining hall with an open kitchen and a spacious terrace overlooking the river. The restaurant accommodates up to 70 guests.
