Sherlock Holmes invites to the celebration of his birthday!

Sherlock Holmes is one of the world’s most popular characters. Disregarding his long professional life Sherlock Holmes has never before celebrated his birthday. Riga has had the honour to shoot the Sherlock Holmes movie.

From 1979 until 1986 the movie ''The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson'' directed by Igor Maslennikov was shot in Riga, where the lead male part was played by Vasily Livanov, and a small street in the Old Riga was very successfully transferred into the Baker Street in London.

Sherlock Holmes performed by Livanov has been acknowledged to be the most authentic and noble and Livanov was awarded an Order of the British Empire by the Queen of England for this role. This is why the tradition to celebrate birthday of Sherlock Holmes in Riga was started.
