On Thursday, 31 May, at a grand ceremony conducted in a distinctly festive and musical atmosphere, Riga’s first five star design hotel, the Grand Poet Hotel, was officially opened. Over 300 guests gathered for the opening ceremony, including business leaders, diplomats and celebrities.
At the opening ceremony, official speeches were made and the ribbon was cut by Riga City Council Deputy Chairman Andris Ameriks and hotel chain Semarah Hotels Board Member Olga Smirnova.
“I am a passionate art love. Travelling around the world, I always stay in various hotels and gaze at each of them with enormous interest as an inspiring and colourful work of art, paying attention to the tiniest details. In creating the Grand Poet Hotel, we wanted Latvia to have a hotel that would be able to inspire and delight visitors, who love both life and art. The newly created design concept Diplohemia makes the Grand Poet Hotel unique globally,” stresses Olga Smirnova, Semarah Hotels Board Member.
Getting accustomed to his role as master of ceremonies was TV personality Valters Krauze. Delighting the audience with musical performances were cello band DaGamba, the world famous Latvian pianist Andrejs Osokins, who has just returned from a concert tour of the USA, and the winner of this year’s Latvian Grand Music Award violinist Kristīne Balanas. In turn, the background music throughout the evening was arranged by DJ Rudd (Rūdolfs Budze).
Guests had the opportunity not only to embark on an exclusive excursion around the hotel, discovering its diplohemian design and interior, but were also able to take a trip of gastronomic pleasure guided by the chefs from the hotel’s renowned restaurant, observing a cooking masterclass and barmen’s show. Chef Deniss Ivankovs has over 20 years’ international experience, having worked at a number of prestigious restaurants around the world including Michelin under the tutelage of such renowned chefs as Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Marco Pierre White and other. In turn, barman Mārtiņš Ambrass has promised to make SNOB the best bar in Riga. Previously, he worked at one of the world’s best bars Door 74 in Amsterdam.
The Grand Poet Hotel is located at Raiņa Boulevard 5/6, which is in the very heart of historic Riga, not far from the Freedom Monument. The Diplohemia concept combines design solutions characteristic of both diplomacy and bohemia, which were created by internationally renowned and award-winning concept and design agency Stylt Trampoli (Sweden). In turn, the design was prepared by the architecture firm Sarma and Norde (Latvia), retaining the building’s unique architectonic quality. In itself, the name of the hotel signifies duality, a trait frequently embodied by poets in the form of – practicality and Bohemia.
The hotel has 168 elegant rooms, including ultra-luxurious apartments, a restaurant for a new and refined gastronomic experience SNOB, a café Grand Café, modern event and conference premises, a spacious Wellness centre, as well as three elegant SPA treatment rooms and a guy. The hotel is a true pearl for design connoisseurs, bon vivants and those intoxicated by cultural experiences.
The Grand Poet Hotel is the brainchild of the Latvian hotel chain Semarah Hotels, which has vast experience in the provision of high-class service. Currently, the hotel chain can boast the spa hotel Lielupe in Jurmala and two hotels in Riga – the historic four star Metropole on Aspazijas Boulevard and the elegant five star design hotel Grand Poet Hotel on Raiņa Boulevard. Each has its own unique story and values.
