Number of guests at tourist accommodation establishments decreased by 72 %

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in November 2020 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 50.3 thousand, which is 44.2 % less than in October 2020 and 72.3 % less than in November 2019. As compared to November of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 66 % and comprised 121.9 thousand nights.  

After the emergency situation was declared in the country on November 9, opportunities of both local and foreign visitors to travel have reduced even more, therefore, more rapid fall in the number of visitors was observed in November.

In November 2020 the number of foreign visitors comprised 13 thousand, which is 89.1 % less than in November 2019. Number of nights spent by them comprised 40.7 thousand – a drop of 83.4 %. Most foreign guests hosted were from Russia (1.4 thousand), Germany (1.2 thousand), Estonia (1.1 thousand), Lithuania (1 thousand).

In November 2020, 37.3 thousand Latvian visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 39.9 % less than in November 2019 and 48.5 % less than in October 2020. The number of nights spent by residents comprised 81.2 thousand, which is a drop of 29 %, compared to November last year, and 40.5 % less than in October 2020. Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (34.1 %), Jūrmala (11.7 %), Liepāja (8 %), Daugavpils (3.9 %), Sigulda county (3 %), Ventspils (2.6 %), Kuldīga county (2 %).  

Most foreign guests were hosted in Riga – 84.2 %, Liepāja – 2.9 %, Jūrmala – 2.6 %, Sigulda county – 2.1 %, Mārupe county – 1.3 %.
