23 April 1920 is the date of the inauguration of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and thus the proclamation of the sovereignty of the Turkish people. In order to hearten the children who suffered from the Turkish War of Independence, the founder of our Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk dedicated this day to the children as they are the future of the country. Since 1979, 23rd of April has become an international festival celebrated in Türkiye together with children coming from all over the world, in a spirit of peace and harmony.
This year, in order to celebrate the 23rd of April in a way that befits its purpose, “Coral Travel Latvia” and “Odeon Tours Turkey” are organizing a one week programme in Antalya for a group of Ukranian children, who are currently temporarily residing in Valmiera. This project is being carried out in coordination with our Embassy, Chairman of the Turkey Friendship Group in the Saeima Mr. Romāns Naudiņš and the Municipality of Valmiera.
As part of this programme, these children will not only enjoy holiday in Antalya, but also have the chance to join the 23rd of April Children’s Day festivities together with their Turkish friends. We hope this experience may help in alleviating the distress these children have had to go through recently.
