This January - Riga Airport Handled 420 thousand Passengers

RIX Riga Airport handled 420 thousand passengers this January, which is five thousand more than a year earlier. According to preliminary data on the Airport's performance, almost 338 thousand passengers used Riga Airport for direct flights, but the number of transit passengers remains stable at 20 % and exceeded 82 thousand in January.

The average occupancy of passenger flights in January exceeded the 70 percent mark, and flights to the United Kingdom and southern Europe remain the most popular. More than half of the passengers served in January, or 222.6 thousand, travelled with the national airline airBaltic; the second largest carrier has traditionally been the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair with 132 thousand travellers.

Since the beginning of the year, a separate line is available at Riga Airport security check for passengers traveling with children up to the age of seven, as well as for holders of Latvian Honorary Family cards. In this line, as well as in the fast-track security screening line, the latest generation of hand baggage screening equipment has been installed, which allows checking electronic devices and liquids without removing them from the bag. At the end of the month, the first three out of five new passenger air bridges were put into operation.
