During the spring session of Fashion Week, alongside the main designer shows, special attention will be given to exhibitions — visual, textile, and applied arts. The organizers aim to acquaint the event's guests not only with fashion trends but also with the creativity of talents in related fields of art.
The first day of RIGA FASHION WEEK (RFW) is marked by the opening of an exhibition by the young Latvian designer Dan Krumpan's at the pop-up gallery "KRAŸ" (located at Chaka Street 136), created by him and his like-minded musician colleagues specifically for Fashion Week in Riga. In his exposition, the designer offers to explore the world of fashion from an artistic perspective through experimentation, expanding conventional perceptions and boundaries. The fusion of several creative disciplines into a harmonious unity, combined with live classical and electronic music, will immerse gallery visitors in an unusual atmosphere. It's worth noting that on each of the 4 days of the exhibition (from April 8 to 11), something new will happen in the innovative space of "KRAŸ", primarily targeting representatives of the creative industries.
On April 9th, in the heart of Old Riga, at the Relais Le Chevalier hotel (20 Kalku Street), in the Akcenti salon, the Latvian beachwear brand Sin on the Beach will present the collection of bags and accessories at the opening of their joint exhibition. "The collection of velvet evening bags with hand embroidery, 'Follow Your Dreams,' is dedicated to Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale 'Thumbelina'. Characteristic elements include golden threads, tiny beads, crystals, and semi-precious stones," says the designer of the Sin on the Beach brand, Anna Kustikova.
During the dates of RFW, there will be three more stunning exhibitions of applied arts in museums and galleries in Riga, highly recommended for visiting. One of them, at the Art Museum "Riga Bourse" (6 Dome Square), titled "Suzani: The Story of an Embroiderer", is dedicated to the traditional art of embroidery in Uzbekistan. The artist Madina Kasymbaeva, combining crochet and embroidery techniques, revives traditions and creates magnificent Suzani artworks. The presented art piece, embroidered by 16 craftswomen over three and a half years, reflects elements of nature and the cosmos, conveying the unity of humanity and the surrounding world.
Another large-scale exhibition is taking place at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (10 Skarnu Street) titled "Sensitive to Touch," organized jointly with the Latvian Association of Jewelry Art, showcasing the works of 23 outstanding masters from different generations. The exhibition's idea is based on stories about people and the jewellery they have chosen. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to explore the diversity of jewellery and the materials used to create them.
Until June 30th, the Ola Foundation cultural space will host an exhibition by textile artist Edite Pauls-Viģnere titled "Playing with Age," which will also feature assemblies by her son, Paulus Viģners. Edite Pauls-Viģnere is one of the most vivid and attractive personalities in Latvian visual arts of the second half of the 20th century, whose creativity, expression, multi-dimensionality, and scope have left their mark on the history of Latvian visual arts.
