BalticTravelnews.com: Reflections on Three Travel Days in Kurzeme

In recent years, regional tourism in Latvia has experienced a notable revival. Post-pandemic, both domestic and international travelers increasingly choose regional destinations offering authentic, high-quality services. However, autumn and winter travel is still challenged by infrastructure limitations — Latvia lacks high-speed highways, which discourages longer routes during dark hours, especially in forested areas with wildlife collision risks and limited overtaking safety.

Despite this, Kurzeme stands out with exceptional tourism quality and dynamism. The region continues to strengthen its leadership on Latvia’s tourism map, supported by international recognition:

📍 Suiti Cultural Space – Listed in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2009, known for its unique singing traditions, folk costumes, and Catholic heritage in a Lutheran setting.

📍 Kuldīga Old Town – Included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2023, preserving 17th–18th century urban structures.

📍 Grobiņa Archaeological Ensemble – A candidate for UNESCO listing, showcasing Viking-era cultural heritage in the Baltics.

📍 Liepāja – Named European Capital of Culture for 2027, promising to elevate the region’s cultural and tourism appeal.

These examples affirm Kurzeme’s leadership among Latvia’s regions.

Three-Day Journey: Discoveries for Tourism Professionals and Travelers

Organized by Visit Kurzeme and LIAA, the three-day trip introduced a rich selection of tourism sites and services — even seasoned professionals found pleasant surprises. The itinerary was intensive, content-rich, and professionally curated.
