First dedicated business travel awards held in Russia recognise Travelport as leading business GDS
Moscow, Russia – 4 October 2010: Travelport, the business services provider to the global travel industry, has been selected as best GDS in business travel at the inaugural Russian Business Travel & MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) awards.
The ceremony, held on 20 September at the Renaissance hotel in Moscow, is the first of its kind to recognise the achievements of the business travel industry in Russia – one that generates several billion roubles annually and involves thousands of hotels, congress centres, aviation, transport, insurance, logistic and exhibition companies.
Travelport was selected in the business GDS category for its contribution towards the promotion of business travel in the region. Maria Yakushkina, country manager for Travelport in Russia said on winning the award:
'We are honoured to receive this award at the first ceremony dedicated to the business travel industry in Russia. We have consistently communicated the significant investment we continue to place in Russia and our ambitious development strategy in both business and leisure markets. Just a few months ago we announced a ground-breaking strategic partnership with Sirena Travel – Russia's largest domestic global distribution system, providing access to a world of international airline content for local subscribers. It is truly rewarding to be recognised for the great strides we are making locally.'
The Business Travel magazine in Russia and online portal Conference.ru developed the concept of the Business Travel and MICE awards earlier this year and the nomination process lasted from May until mid-July. In total 163 nominations and 60,000 votes were cast among 23 categories, judged by a panel of leading local and international business and MICE experts.
Last December Travelport was recognised for its contribution to economic development in Russia at the Inter-regional Association of Entrepreneurs (IRAE) Awards. The company was presented the ‘Leader in Russian Business’ accolade at the ceremony, which is held annually to recognise significant contributions to the development of the economy in Russia.
