Baltic restaurants break into the TOP 50 best in Europe

Riga’s Restaurant Bergs was rated as the 40th best restaurant in Europe last year by the portal "The European 50 best restaurants", moving up seven places compared to 2009. On the internationally-recognized list of the 100 top quality restaurants from 23 countries, Spain’s El Bulli, has been named the best, but second and third best are located in Great Britain - Le Gavroche and Maze.

"The European 50 best restaurants" portal’s homepage  www.theeuropean50best.com, is based on actual experience, feedback and opinion from thousands of users about where to dine. Portal developers, after visiting the restaurants themselves, make the selection on the ones to be listed. Worthiness for the TOP 100 is assessed by rating food/meal quality, its preparation and flavour combination, creativity, culinary standards, presentation and table service.

The EU Leonardo da Vinci employee exchange programme has helped Baltic enterprises gain the experience of the older nations in Europe, as it provides hospitality personnel the opportunity for in-service training at the finest establishments in Finland, France and Germany. The executive chef at Bergs, Kaspars Jansons, and his sous chef, for example, will be working along side masters at Chez Dominique in Helsinki and La Table du Gourmet in France. Both are listed in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

Bergs Chef Kaspars Jansons has already gained valuable experience at the three-Michelin-star restaurant Schwarzwaldstube in Germany. Three stars, of course, are the Michelin Guide’s highest rating.
