On May 24, the sixth annual "Cycling Day and Night" will be held in the picturesque Latvian town of Kuldīga.

The event itself is not a competition, but a relaxing day out with friends and family, as well as for all those who just like to ride their bikes and enjoy nature and the surrounding scenery.

Over the years, the event has become a popular tradition in the historical town, and last year gathered over 2,000 participants from Latvia and abroad.

The event itself has always been meant as a green-thinking day, and is organized to draw attention to the environmental challenges that we are all facing and to the role that Europe is playing in solving them.

The occasion will also be used to encourage cycling as an alternative means of transportation in Latvia and to raise awareness for more safety on the roads. Simultaneously the event will promote the need for an active and healthy lifestyle for all and, by cycling in the surroundings of Kuldīga, underlining the beauty of Latvia in general and of Kuldīga in particular.

There are four distances to be cycled during the day ride – from 10 to 52 kilometers, whilst the night ride will be a distance of 18 kilometers. The route promises to be very scenic. The organizers will provide rental bikes, if needed, and there will be a biker’s camp afterwards before the night ride.

Various different cycling-related events and activities will also take place during the day, like a special cycling parade and other competitions. Concerts and other entertainment activities will also be held, as well as some other special surprises.

In the evening, special out-door cinema viewings will take place, as well as the annual barn-yard dance at the city’s outdoor stage.
