Hikers can expect 242 hiking-friendly places in Latvia

With the growing popularity of walking tourism, businesses are rushing to offer services tailored to pedestrians. Pedestrian-friendly hospitality can now be enjoyed in 242 "hiking-friendly" establishments across Latvia, including 15 places in Zemgale.

What is a "Hiker-Friendly" sign

When walkers see a "Hiker-Friendly" sign on a hostel, café, shop, tourist information center, or another establishment, they can be sure that they are welcome. They offer important and necessary services for walkers, such as route information, drinking water, first aid kit, charging of electrical appliances, etc. The "Hiker-Friendly" sign is active in all three Baltic States - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

How businesses can obtain the "Hiker-Friendly" label

Businesses can obtain the "Hiker-Friendly" label if they offer services that pedestrians need, such as accommodation, cafés, pubs, and restaurants. Businesses can find out more about the "Hiker-friendly" label and the application criteria here: https://baltictrails.eu/lv/forest/hikerfriendly/prof .

How to find "Hiker-friendly" places

The websites of popular hiking routes "Jūrtaka" and "Mežtaka" have separate sections for information on hiker-friendly places. Here you can find out what facilities and services are available to travelers in hiker-friendly places - accommodation, eating places, shops, tourist information centers, and other places where pedestrians are welcome.

Here you can also find out about hiker-friendly places on other routes and in other regions, as the sign is not just about a specific route, but contributes to the overall pedestrian movement in the Baltics.
