«airBaltic» Celebrates the 29th Anniversary

October 2024 marks the 29th anniversary of the Latvian airline airBaltic. Therefore, as the company celebrates nearly three decades of connecting people and places, airBaltic emphasizes the importance of shared experiences and the joy of flying together.

Martin Gauss, CEO and President of airBaltic: “We have been in the skies for an impressive 29 years, reaching countless milestones along the way. I am proud of our airline and the dedicated entire team that supports every aspect of our business.”

“We also cannot imagine airBaltic without our passengers – both our loyal frequent flyers and those about to experience their first flight. You are at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for your trust and support; we look forward to welcoming you onboard soon!” Gauss added.

To celebrate its 29th anniversary, airBaltic has invited both employees and passengers to share their memorable experiences, capturing the essence of nearly three decades of flying together. A special video featuring airBaltic employees sharing passenger compliments has been released, along with posts throughout October highlighting the company’s history and milestones. The celebration continues with upcoming posts, including more passenger stories, as we reflect on 29 years of aviation excellence and community connections.

Currently, airBaltic employs over 2 700 professionals, representing 35 nationalities. The average age of employees is 34, with an average seniority of five years. Until now, seven employees have been with the airline since its establishment in 1995, marking a 29 years of service. The company maintains a balanced gender ratio, with 45% women and 55% men.

The most represented professions and areas among current employees include cabin crew (over 830), aircraft technical maintenance personnel (over 600), pilots (over 450), flight assurance and operations specialists (over 320), commercial personnel (over 260), and office roles in IT, human resources, finance, and other departments (around 230).

airBaltic was founded in early autumn of 1995 through a joint venture between the Latvian state and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). On October 1, airBaltic operated its first commercial flight, from Riga to Stockholm, using a Saab SF340 aircraft. In October 1995 alone, airBaltic carried 4 400 passengers across 209 flights. Over the past 29 years, airBaltic has served more than 60 million passengers on over 933 thousand flights.

airBaltic operates more than 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere and, seasonally, Gran Canaria, offering connections to a wide range of destinations in the airline's route network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.
