airBaltic cancels most flights until 18:00 (15:00 UTC) on April 19

The Latvian national airline airBaltic has cancelled flights originally scheduled to leave Riga until noon 18:00 local time (15:00 UTC) on April 18 due to an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland. airBaltic regrets the inconvenience and will do its best to assist passengers.

Janis Vanags, airBaltic Vice President Corporate Communications: “Some flights still remain uncancelled during today, as we hope to find open airspace to operate them to fly passengers home. However, we might be forced to cancel them if the conditions do not improve and airspace remains closed.”

airBaltic warns passengers that flight cancellations may extend after 18:00 (15:00 UTC) on April 19. airBaltic Riga-bound flights from airports in Europe, Scandinavia, Middle East and the CIS are cancelled.

airBaltic will take every opportunity to assist customers in airports affected by the ash cloud.

airBaltic invites passengers to check departure and arrival status on www.airbaltic.com, airBaltic profile on Facebook and Twitter, as well as with airport information services, before going to the airport.

Currently more than 30 000 people have chosen to follow airBaltic on Facebook and Twitter to receive the latest updates from airports. airBaltic serves 80 destinations in Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.

Passengers who booked travel on one of the cancelled flights can choose any of the next available flight at no extra charge (if the flight is postponed to a date until May 31,2010) or apply for a full refund of unused flight(s) tickets at any airBaltic Ticket office, travel agency where original tickets were issued, by calling or sending an e-mail to airBaltic reservation centre.

If your trip has lost purpose due to delay, and you do not require immediate change of flight to any nearest available flight, we kindly ask to contact airBaltic for free-of-charge rebooking any time later, so that our staff can assist passengers in urgent need.

airBaltic will pay the first hotel night for all passengers stranded outside their home airports. airBaltic will assist passengers in booking hotel rooms for the subsequent nights. For travel insurance holders, airBaltic suggests to contact the insurance company to inquire about compensation policies.
