airBaltic Introduces Online Booking for Cargo

Latvian national airline airBaltic has introduced an online booking system to improve its growing cargo service for freight forwarders.

Tero Taskila, airBaltic Chief Commercial Officer: “airBaltic is best known for its achievements in scheduled passenger services to/from 80 destinations in Europe, Middle East, Russia and CIS. For passengers, booking an affordable ticket on www.airbaltic.com 24/7 became a standard many years ago. Now we are intruducing the same 24/7 service to freight forwarders. This new service is a natural addition, considering that airBaltic has doubled its cargo and mail volume since its business restructuring two years ago.”

The new online booking portal allows freight forwarders to view real time schedule, availability and to make bookings directly into live inventory. This makes airBaltic‘s cargo services available 24/7 and ensures instant responses that are very important in airfreight business.

In the first 9 months of 2010 Air Baltic has achieved 21% growth of its cargo and mail compared to the same period last year. The main drivers behind this success is increased capacity, sales activity and transit cargo via North Hub Riga. The share of transit cargo has reached 70% of the total volume.

The online booking system comes on top of recent technological improvements at airBaltic Cargo. The airline recently introduced MailSuite software from CDA IT Systems Gmbh. It helps airBaltic service over 20 postal organisations such as those of Belgium, Netherlands, France, Latvia, UK and many others.

airBaltic serves more than 80 destinations from its home base at North Hub Riga, Latvia. From each of these, airBaltic offers convenient connections via North Hub Riga to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.
