Balloon Tallinn received the "Tourism Act 2014 award"

During Entrepreneurship Day on October 2, the winners of the 2014 entrepreneurship awards were announced in six categories. The Tourism Act 2014 award was given to Lennulaev OÜ, whose tourism attraction Balloon Tallinn has gained popularity with both visitors and the citizens of Tallinn.

Tallinn City Enterprise Department hosted Entrepreneurship Day for the 11th consecutive time in order to acknowledge and value entrepreneurs and an entrepreneurial lifestyle; to offer new and useful information to entrepreneurs and those interested in entrepreneurship; and to encourage the citizens of Tallinn to take up entrepreneurship.

Seven acts were in the running for the Tourism Act 2014 award, from which three nominees were chosen: AS Sokotel with their project "The opening of the hotel of Estonian stories, Solo Sokos Hotel Estoria", AS Tallinn Harbour for their new cruise pier in Tallinn Old City Harbour, and AS Tallinn Airport GH with their project "AS Tallinn Airport GH has the world's best service". The new cruise pier won in the category Development Project of the Year.

According to the head of Tallinn City Enterprise Department's tourism department, Evelin Tsirk, Balloon Tallinn is an excellent example of how it’s possible to create a truly remarkable tourism object by combining innovation and creative thinking: "Balloon Tallinn is the highest open viewing platform in Tallinn city centre and the northernmost similar attraction in the world, which is why this is a completely unique flying attraction not only in Tallinn but in the world."

The aim of the Tourism Act award is to give acclaim to private individuals, enterprises or organisations, which have developed and carried out a project that - with its events and actions - offers an additional value to Tallinn as a tourism destination. The jury took into consideration the innovation of the project, its scale, and influence to the development of Tallinn as a tourism destination.

Entrepreneurship awards are handed out in the following categories: development project, cooperation project, bright starter, tourism act, employment creator, responsible entrepreneur, and special award Eco-innovation.

Organising Entrepreneurship Day is an international tradition, which began in larger cities in Europe in 2003. By today, thematic weeks aimed at small- or mid-level entrepreneurs take place simultaneously in at least 37 European countries.
