Passenger Traffic at Riga Airport Increased in January

RIX Riga Airport handled a total of 458 000 passengers in January, marking a nine percent increase compared to January 2024. According to operational data, the number of direct passengers surpassed the January 2019 level by 6 %. With 4 526 flights handled during the month, flight numbers also rose by 8 %.

One-fifth of passengers used Riga Airport as a connecting hub for their onward flights, while 80 % traveled on direct flights. Just over half — 251 000 passengers — flew with the national airline airBaltic; 119 000 or slightly more than a quarter, opted for the low-cost carrier Ryanair.

The United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Spain, and Italy were the most popular destinations in January.

In January, Riga Airport handled 1 649 tonnes of air cargo, reflecting a 23 % increase compared to January 2024. The main air cargo routes were to and from Denmark, France, and Germany. Approximately half of the cargo was transported on passenger aircraft, with the remainder carried on dedicated cargo flights.

For 2025, RIX Riga Airport expects to handle a total of 7.4 million passengers.
