Flights and operations at Vilnius Airport fully resumed on Wednesday morning; delays possible throughout the day

During the night of October 21 to 22, air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily suspended and the airspace was closed. The airspace over Vilnius was temporarily closed due to meteorological balloons flying toward Vilnius Airport. To ensure flight safety, the airport’s operations were suspended on October 21 at 22:23. Flights and operations in Vilnius resumed after the airspace was reopened—on Wednesday at 06:40.

Due to the temporary restrictions on Vilnius Airport operations from October 21 to 22, more than 4,000 passengers and thirty flights were affected. Fourteen flights bound for Vilnius were diverted to other airports—mostly to Kaunas (10 flights), Riga (2), Palanga (1), and Warsaw (1). Ten flights were canceled, and one aircraft returned to its departure airport. Five flights departing from Vilnius Airport are expected to be delayed.

Throughout the day, minor flight delays may occur due to disrupted crew and aircraft rotations.

Passengers whose flights were disrupted or canceled are invited to contact their airlines directly for more detailed information. Flight information is available on the Vilnius Airport website.
