Riga Airport has Handled 5.3 million Passengers Since the Beginning of the Year

According to preliminary data on the Airport's performance, 5.3 million passengers were served at RIX Riga Airport in the first nine months of this year. The number of passengers handled in September, as compared to September last year, increased by 9 % and reached 664 thousand travellers.

518 thousand passengers used direct flights from and to Riga Airport in September, which is the same result as during the pre-pandemic period, while the annual number of direct passengers increased by 1 % as compared to 2019. The number of transit passengers compared to last year increased by 11 % and was slightly more than 146 thousand passengers.

Almost two-thirds of the passengers, or 406 thousand travellers, were carried by the national airline airBaltic in September, followed by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair with a fifth of the passengers served at Riga Airport.

The company's forecasts show that by the end of the year, the total number of passengers served at Riga Airport will exceed 7 million.

In September 1737 tonnes of air cargo were handled, and since the beginning of the year – 13.3 thousand tonnes. A little more than half of the air cargo volume is carried by cargo flights, and the rest by passenger flights. The three largest cargo carriers at Riga Airport in September were airBaltic, European Air Transport and Lufthansa Cargo, which started regular cargo transportation to and from Riga this spring.
