«airBaltic» Successfully Completes Construction of the Baltic Cargo Hub

The national airline airBaltic announces the successful completion of the new Baltic Cargo Hub – the largest dedicated air cargo handling facility in the Baltics. The construction works have been completed on schedule, marking a major milestone in the airline’s commitment to strengthening air cargo infrastructure in the region.

With construction now complete, airBaltic is preparing to soon launch full-scale operations at the Baltic Cargo Hub, reinforcing RIX Riga Airport as a key logistics hub in Northern Europe and improving airBaltic cargo product offering.
The opening of the Baltic Cargo Hub is planned for later in the spring, and more information will follow.

Developed in close collaboration with leading industry partners, the project saw UPB Nams managing the construction works, the Ozola un Bula architect office providing architectural design, and BLV Advisory Group overseeing technical supervision.

Spanning 6 895 m², the Baltic Cargo Hub is designed to support the growing demand for efficient and modern air cargo services at RIX Riga Airport. Located directly at cargo apron and equipped with advanced semi-automatic material handling systems, the facility will enable swift and seamless cargo processing. It features temperature-controlled rooms for sensitive materials such as pharmaceuticals, as well as dedicated areas for dangerous goods, live animals, and valuables. Integrated Food and Veterinary Service facilities and a Customs checkpoint will further streamline cargo operations.

The project also highlights airBaltic’s strong commitment to sustainability. Throughout the construction process, Building Information Modeling (BIM) was utilized to optimize efficiency, and the facility meets BREEAM sustainability standards, setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible development in the aviation industry.

airBaltic operates more than 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere and, seasonally, Gran Canaria, offering connections to a wide range of destinations in the airline's route network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. A complete schedule of airBaltic flights and tickets are available on the company's homepage at www.airbaltic.com.
