Jazz lovers have been able to enjoy the excellent Jazzkaar Festival for many springs in Estonia. Jazz can also be enjoyed at the Christmas Jazz Festival, which will take place for the tenth time at the end of the year and attracts memorable performers both from Estonia and abroad.
The programme of this year’s Jazzkaar Christmas Jazz Festival is better than ever before. Musicians from 10 countries will take part in 31 concerts from 29 November to 17 December in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu, Viljandi, Rakvere, Elva, Võru and Valga.
The first concert was held on 29 November in the Russian Theatre in Tallinn and featured a performance of the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, declared the best jazz group in Poland. Tomasz Stanko, who is a friend and mentor of the young group, which already has a long history, has said about them: “We have never had a band like this during the entire history of Polish jazz. They only get better and better in time.”
Other groups performing at the festival include Berlin Voices, Gine Anderssen & Dessert Time, Kate McGarry & Trio, Rajaton. There are also several Estonian performers: Andres Mustonen Jazz Quartet; Raivo Tafenau and Ain Agan with Laura Põldvere; Helin Arder, Marko Matvere and Radio Children; Tõnu Naissoo Quarter with Anna Põldvee and many others.
