This year the Autumn Chamber Music Festival will take place in Rīga, Cēsis, Auce and Rēzekne and its patron is world famous Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks. The motto of the festival is “tete-a-tete” which underlines the idea of creating the festival as a special dialogue between musicians and the audience. The programme includes both Latvian and foreign compositions performed by well-known and new Latvian musicians.
One special event will be the debut of Pēteris Vasks' Flute Concerto by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra (conductor Normunds Vaicis) together with German flutist Michael Faust on October 2. Georgian composer Giya Kanchelli will visit Rīga on International Music Day on October 1 to hear his works performed by the “Sinfonietta Riga”, Estonian conductor Andres Mustonen, Italian alto flute player Massimo Marcelli and Russian violinist Pavel Vernikov.
The Finnish “Tempera Quartet” will give their first concert in Latvia at the Spīķeri Concert Hall on September 30 with compositions by Joseph Haydn, Ottorino Respighi, Jean Sibelius, and Pēteris Vasks. Chamber music devotees will be also delighted at the simple, sincere and vivid music offered by the “Mixed Trio” band – the Petrauskis brothers and Rihards Zaļupe. The programme includes works by Nic Gotham, Eckhard Kopetski, Takatsugu Muramatsu, Astor Piazzolla, and Rihards Zaļupe.
