From the 11th to the 15th of September Riga will host the workshop - seminar “Baltic Connecting” for international tourism professionals.
The event will be attended by representatives from Armenia, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Belarus, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Finland, France, Israel, Ukraine, the USA, Great Britain, Estonia, Lithuania, etc.
The aim of “Baltic Connecting” is to give foreign tourism industry professionals information about tourism possibilities in Latvia and the Baltic, to offer specific products, as well as an opportunity to meet their potential collaboration partners from the Baltics and other countries, to establish contacts, and sell their services. The main task of the event is to promote the recognition of Latvia both as a connecting link and as a tourism destination. The previous event “Buy Latvia. Buy the Baltics” changed, as the focus of the event developed.
The Baltic States, Germany, Russia and Scandinavia, identified as high priority markets in the Latvia tourism marketing strategy will be widely represented in the seminar. Participants choose the status of a customer, seller or both. A total of 177 representatives from 26 countries have applied for the event, including 50 tourism services providers from Latvia – hotels, tour operators and agents, as well as associations.
The official partner of the event is “airBaltic. The participants are tourism companies from “airBaltic” destinations, as well as local tourism companies. “Through “Baltic connecting” we hope to promote the passenger flow on „airBaltic” routes, especially via Riga and airports in Lithuania and Estonia. The primary interest of „airBaltic” in foreign markets is to position the Baltics as a destination, although Riga increasingly secures its position as a transit airport and approximately 60% of “airBaltic” passengers travel through Riga in transit,” explained the Vice President of “airBaltic” Mr Jānis Vanags.
Destination presentations and various fam trips to introduce tourism products in Riga, Latvia and the Baltics will be held simultaneously with the workshop and individual negotiations. These trips are organized in cooperation with the regional tourism associations, taking into consideration the new Latvian tourism brand “Best enjoyed slowly” and the three main themes of the tours “Enjoy”, “Relax” and “Experience”.
A similar annual meeting of professionals “Mid-Atlantic” is held very successfully in Reykjavik Iceland, already for 17 years. It is the meeting point for tourism professionals of the American and European continents, where at the same time, both Iceland and other countries connected by the airline ”Air Iceland” (midatlantic.icelandair.com/) are sold as tourism destinations.
