Low fares arrive at Vilnius airport. Ryanair opens second airport in Lithuania

Ryanair, Europe’s favourite low cost airline announced that as of May 2011 Ryanair, will be operating from a second airport in Lithuania when the country’s capital airport will join the Ryanair network. Following the success of its operations in Kaunas, Ryanair is introducing five new routes to/from Vilnius in the coming summer schedule: Barcelona (Girona), Dublin, London (Stansted), Milan (Bergamo) as well as Rome (Ciampino). Whereas London (Stansted) will operate daily, Dublin, Milan and Rome are scheduled three times per week. Barcelona (Girona) will be operated twice per week adding a total of 18 weekly flights to Vilnius airport.

Ryanair’s Barcelona (Girona) and Milan (Bergamo) routes will transfer from Kaunas to Vilnius to make way for Ryanair’s first Greek routes from Kaunas to Rhodes and Kos which were announced recently.

Ryanair’s five Vilnius route will deliver up to 250,000 passengers p.a. and sustain 250 jobs while its Kaunas base delivers over 1 million passengers p.a. sustaining over 1,000 local jobs in the industry.

Ryanair celebrates its five new Vilnius routes by releasing 1 million 28 LTL seats for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on over 1,000 routes across its European network, in March. These 28 LTL seats are available for booking on www.ryanair.com from Tuesday, 22nd of February until midnight Thursday (24th Feb).

Lithuanian passengers will now be able to choose from two airports and 25 direct routes across the Europe.

Henrike Schmidt, Ryanair’s Sales & Marketing Manager in Ryanair is in Vilnius today and delighted with the news:
“Ryanair is pleased to announce the introduction of five new routes from the Lithuanian’s Capital City Vilnius, from May 2011 These follow the success of our Kaunas base which opened in May 2010. Lithuanian consumers / visitors can now beat the recession and escape Air Baltic’s high fares by choosing Ryanair’s lowest fares and our no fuel surcharge guarantee from Kaunas and Vilnius to exciting destinations all over Europe including Greece, Italy and Spain among others. Ryanair’s 250,000 passengers at Vilnius and over 1 million passengers p.a. at Kaunas will sustain over 1,250 jobs in the Lithuanian economy as Ryanair continues to offer a mix of exciting direct and low fare routes.”

Ryanair is the World’s favourite airline and operates more than 1,500 flights per day from 44 bases and 1200+ low fare routes across 27 countries, connecting 160 destinations. Ryanair operates a fleet of 262 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft with firm orders for a further 49 new aircraft (before taking account of planned disposals), which will be delivered over the next year. Ryanair currently has a team of more than 8,000 people and expects to carry approximately 73.5 million passengers in the current fiscal year.
