Marking the 20th anniversary of her professional stage career, Marija Naumova is proud to present "Romani Rat" (Gypsy Night) concerts slated for August 2013 and March 2014.
One of the concerts is set to take place on March 6 at 7.00 pm at the Theatre House "Juras varti" in Ventspils.
The concert is planned as an artistic show comprising four historical stories about the tremendous influence of Gypsy music on world musical tastes.
The concert repertoire will be divided into the following 4 blocks:
Romanian–Hungarian–Gypsy music, including Balkan music;
Flamenco as the invention of the gypsies; resulting from a synthesis of Gypsy music and Spanish music;
Manouche, or French/Gypsy jazz, created by the famous Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt after he lost the use of two left hand fingers in a caravan fire and hence re-invented his guitar playing, developing a new style of music;
Russian Gypsy music.
With an aim to depict the rich history and culture of the Romani people, the stories will be told through Gypsy music, dance, song, video and acting. Marija Naumova will perform side by side with nearly 15 artists from Latvia, Spain, France and Romania.
During the show, the audience will be able to view paintings by Karlis Rudevics, the Latvian Gypsy and recipient of the Order of the Three Stars.
Tickets are on sale at the Theatre House "Juras varti", ticket distribution places of "Bilesu Paradize" and online at
