Latvian hockey player Mikelis Redlihs starts his own brewery

The outstanding Latvian hockey player Mikelis Redlihs (Miķelis Rēdlihs), who was a member of the KHL for two seasons, started his own brewery. He named it after himself – "Miķeļa alus", which means 'Mikelis' beer' in Latvian, reports the spokeswoman of the new brewery, Marta Bormane.

The hockey player  founded Ltd. "Miķeļa alus", where he invested 300,000 euros in the production line. The brewery is established in Zemgale region's town Ozolnieki, and it currently produces one type of beer – "Miķeļa alus". It is a naturally fermented beer which is brewed by using the classical method – open fermentation and a three week long maturation. "Miķeļa alus" takes one day to brew, seven days to ferment and three weeks to settle. The "Miķeļa alus" beer does not undergo filtration or pasteurization processes.

The recipe for this beer was developed by the brewer Janis Valdmanis (Jānis Valdmanis). Right now "Miķeļa alus" can be ordered in many Latvian bars and cafes. However, it is served on tap only.
