The "Kino pagalms" outdoor cinema and café, a highly popular venue with filmgoers last summer, is back from August 7 with outstanding film screenings and other opportunities to have a great time under the open sky in the very heart of Riga.
This summer "Kino pagalms" is located on the roof terrace of the "Galleria Riga" shopping mall. Just as in 2013, the outdoor cinema offers daily film screenings and delicious snacks and cocktails at the "Kino pagalms" café, which this year is run by chefs from the "Mākonis" restaurant in Riga's Old Town. Fresh food and snacks Riga-style are on the menu every day from 12 noon and late into the night.
Besides world classics and latest European films, this year "Kino pagalms" also features a special retrospective of films by the Coen brothers. For eight nights from August 11, best films by the Coen brothers, including their debut film "Blood Simple" shot in 1984, "Fargo" that prompted them to international stardom, and "The Big Lebowski", a modern-day classic, will be screened at the outdoor cinema.
"Kino pagalms" will also have a special programme of famous film directors' debut films. The audiences will have a chance to see works by now-prominent directors that they created at the outset of their careers, which have since become acclaimed works of art.
"Kino pagalms" offers a completely different cinema experience because, unlike other cinemas in Riga, here filmgoers can watch films under the open sky, screened on a special inflatable screen, and each viewer is issued individual wireless headphones to become completely immersed in a film they are watching, or have a quite conversation with their neighbours without disturbing other people in the audience.
"Kino pagalms" will be open from August 7 to August 31.
