From October 1, vehicles can enter Jūrmala city free of charge

From October 1, 2014, all vehicle entrance to Jūrmala city (Latvia) will be free of charge. It will remain free up until March 31, 2015.

It is planned that removing the vehicle entrance fee will increase tourist attraction to Jurmala city, as well as promote local service development  and lessen the amount of transit vehicles, thus preventing environment pollution.

"Jūrmala city is growing in popularity as an autumn holiday destination, especially among families with children. The city offers various types of recreation, and interesting culture events. For example, this fall Jūrmala city has renovated the Culture Centre, which means that now locals and guests can visit the theatre, cinema, exhibitions and concerts. Starting October 4, house of the famous Latvian writer Aspazija will be open for visitors. It is important to note that you can visit all of the museums free of charge. Many families with children choose to spend their weekends in Jūrmala during fall and winter season as well," claims the Chairman of Jūrmala City Council, Guntis Truksnis.

However, the entrance fee will be renewed starting April 1, 2015, in the amount of 2 euros, and will remain such until September 30, 2015.
