Cultural event "Night of Churches" invites everyone to discover the cultural and spiritual heritage of churches in Riga and Latvia.
In its third edition a record number of 190 churches in all regions – Riga, Kurzeme, Zemgale, Vidzeme and Latgale – will participate and open their doors with variety of activities: guided tours on church history, special programs for children, vocal and instrumental concerts alongside silent and meditative contemplation. This year's musical program is diverse, since a lot of renowned Latvian musicians have already confirmed their contribution: e.g., Goran Gora, guitarist Kaspars Zemītis, Liepāja Music School Big Band, youth choir "Voices", saxophonist Artis Gāga and others.

The Opening of "Night of Churches" at 18:00 at the St. Gertrude Old Church. Different unifying ecumenical initiatives will take place in every participating church – united church bells at 18.00, The Lord’s Prayer at 21:00 and Taizé worship later in the evening. On this very same day "Night of Churches" will take place in Christian churches also in other European countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Estonia. The inspiration to organize this event came from Austria where it’s already held for more than a decade.
Cultural event is supported by the leaders of biggest Latvian Christian denominations, and organised by inter-confessional group of like-minded individuals – foundation "Baznīcu Nakts fonds".
