Riga Airport Handles a Record Number of Passengers in November

November 2024 marked a significant milestone for Riga Airport, as the number of passengers reached pre-pandemic levels for the first time, with a 17 % increase compared to November last year. The record-breaking total of 552,000 passengers at the start of the winter season is attributed to Riga Airport’s extensive range of direct destinations catering to diverse traveler needs.

"We are delighted with this result: surpassing half a million passengers in November is a new record for Riga Airport for this month. Traditionally, November is one of the quieter months in terms of passenger traffic, but the wide selection of direct routes offered by Riga-based airlines, along with a 10 % increase in seat availability compared to last winter, have enabled us to achieve this outstanding performance together," said Laila Odiņa, the Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport.

Direct passengers continue to make up approximately 80 % of the total, with more than 436,000 travelers choosing Riga as their direct destination in November. This represents a 16 % increase compared to last year and an 8 % rise above pre-pandemic levels. On an annual basis, the number of direct passengers also exceeds the 2019 figures.
The number of flights in November increased by 8 % compared to 2023, with Riga Airport handling over 5,000 passenger, air cargo, business, technical, and other flights. Passenger seat occupancy remains robust, averaging around 80 %.

Since the beginning of 2024, Riga Airport has welcomed 6.5 million passengers, with expectations to exceed 7 million by year’s end.
