Where rest meets unrest, stories are born. In the spirit of this paradox, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation invites bold ideas for cultural tourism through its open competition “Land of (Un)rest, Tell Us Stories!” – a call to reimagine how visitors experience the region during Liepāja’s year as European Capital of Culture.
This initiative seeks to unlock the cultural heritage and contemporary spirit of the Land of (Un)rest, by supporting innovative tourism offers that explore the paradoxes of Liepāja, the heritage of Kuldīga, and the untold stories of South Kurzeme. The goal is to inspire both local and international visitors, while strengthening regional identity and promoting environmental awareness.
“Kurzeme’s landscape, shaped by the rhythms of rest and (un)rest, offers a rare canvas for cultural tourism. Here, tranquillity and tension are not opposites – they are sparks for creativity, storytelling, and connection. We invite ideas that capture this spirit and speak to the world, blending local voices, historical depth, and a contemporary lens,” says Baiba Bartkeviča, Board Member for Artistic Affairs of Liepāja 2027
