The Baltic Cargo Center Reports Stable Growth and Expands at New Cargo Hub

The Baltic Cargo Center, the largest cargo ground handling company at RIX Riga Airport and a subsidiary of the Latvian airline airBaltic, has announced its performance results for 2024, highlighting stable operations, revenue growth, and continued strategic development. Last year, the company handled more than 10 thousand tons of cargo and mail, and generated EUR 1.16 million in operating revenue – an increase of around 10% year-on-year – while recording a positive net profit of nearly EUR 64 thousand, close to three times higher than the year before.

Additionally, the Baltic Cargo Center serves as hub for airBaltic’s cargo operations and a key connection point for flights within the carrier’s extensive network. In 2024, a total 21 000 flights carrying commercial cargo and airmail arrived at or departed from RIX Riga Airport on airBaltic aircraft.

Arvīds Maurāns, Chairman of the Board of the Baltic Cargo Center: “Even under continued geopolitical pressures and shifting cargo logistics in the region, 2024 was a resilient and forward-looking year for us. We strengthened our core operations, maintained client trust, and laid the groundwork for future growth. The move to the new Baltic Cargo Hub will significantly boost our capacity and enable us to offer even more efficient, secure and modern cargo handling services at RIX Riga Airport.”

Since its foundation in 2001, the Baltic Cargo Center has established itself as a stable and professional provider of air cargo handling services. It serves both direct and transit shipments for airBaltic, as well as other airlines.

The company operates at RIX Riga Airport in the newly developed the Baltic Cargo Hub. Spanning 6 895 m², the Baltic Cargo Hub is designed to support the growing demand for efficient and modern air cargo services at RIX Riga Airport. Located directly at the cargo apron and equipped with advanced air cargo handling systems and semi-automatic sorting line, the facility will enable swift and seamless cargo processing. The new terminal is designed to handle both general and special cargo, with dedicated rooms for temperature-controlled shipments, dangerous goods, live animals, and valuables.

With continued investment in infrastructure, innovation, and service quality, the Baltic Cargo Center is well positioned to support the region’s growing logistics needs and play a key role in strengthening airBaltic Group’s cargo ecosystem.
