In the first five months of the year, the number of tourists visiting Riga increased by 15% compared to 2024

According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, 117,916 international visitors came to Riga in May 2025, marking a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. The number of overnight stays also rose by 15%, reaching a total of 214,692 nights. These figures confirm a steady growth trend and highlight Riga’s increasing popularity as a travel destination on the international stage. Overall, during the first five months of the year, the number of visitors grew by 15% compared to 2024.

A significant increase was observed in May from several European countries. The number of tourists from the United Kingdom rose by more than 35%, from Germany by 11%, Sweden by 15%, Norway by 22%, Italy by 17%, France by 23%, and from Poland by 12%.

These results clearly show that Riga’s targeted communication in European markets, as well as collaboration with airlines and travel organizers, is delivering tangible results. This summer’s thematic tourism campaign, “No heatwaves, just sea waves,” successfully appealed to travelers who consider the impact of climate change when choosing their destination.

At the same time, European visitor activity continues to be driven by major events, a diverse cultural offering, and the compact and easily accessible nature of the city, which makes it especially attractive for shorter getaways.
