airBaltic Visits Ukraine, Optimistic About Flight Resumption Plans

Kyiv. The Latvian national airline airBaltic announces that on 25 March, in a visit that adhered to the highest safety and planning standards, its Chief Executive Officer and President Martin Gauss together with airBaltic delegation visited Kyiv, Ukraine. There a significant meeting with Oleksandr Kubrakov, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Infrastructure and Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Chief Executive Officer of the Boryspil International Airport was held. During the meeting, M. Gauss confirmed airBaltic's readiness to resume flights to and from flights to and from Kyiv, Lviv, and gradually Odesa, and reintegrate these destinations into its active route network once the war ends and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) declares that flying to and from Ukraine is safe again.

The airBaltic representatives traveled to Ukraine by taking a flight from Riga to Warsaw and then a train from Warsaw to Kyiv. Kristaps Purmalis, the Second Secretary for Economic Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine, also joined the delegation.
During the visit, the delegation of airBaltic, along with the Boryspil Airport management, conducted a thorough review of the airport's infrastructure, equipment, facilities, and operational readiness to resume flights once an acceptable level of flight safety is ensured. Additionally, they discussed future cooperation options, security measures, and airBaltic’s support in the restoration of Ukrainian aviation.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic: “We are committed to be actively involved in the recovery of Ukraine’s air traffic. airBaltic remains a confident and supportive partner in the reconstruction and investment in Ukrainian aviation. Amid the harshest conditions of war, we have witnessed the professionalism of the airport team, looking forward to resume flights at the earliest opportunity. As soon as it is safely possible, given that the safety of our employees, passengers, aircraft, and flights is our top priority, airBaltic is committed to being among the first to resume flights with our neighboring country, ensuring connectivity and supporting Ukraine's independence. Слава Україні (Glory to Ukraine)!”

Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, CEO of Boryspil Airport: “An enormous part of the work we do every day, is cooperation with our key partners – airlines that flew to us historically and which are looking to restart flights in the future. The visit to our airport by the top management of airBaltic, the Latvian national airline, is an essential phase in the implementation of the process of future flight resumption, along with building a reliable architecture for flight safety and passenger security, maintaining airport infrastructure and retention of highly qualified personnel, and maintaining the airport's certified activities.”

airBaltic is looking forward to resume flights to and from Ukraine following the reopening of Ukraine's airspace. The airline is planning to launch daily flights from Kyiv, Lviv, and gradually Odesa, connecting these cities with Baltic capitals, as well as major European cities via Riga.
