Events July/ August in Riga

I International Folk Applied Arts Exhibition will take place in Riga, Riga Congress House and Latvian Ethnographic Open – air Museum, from 12th July to 6th August.
It is the first time that an international fok applied arts exhibition is organized in Latvia. It will be a presentation of contemporary folk applied arts creation based on traditions. Participants – folk applied arts craftsmen from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The project includes exhibition, demonstration of traditional crafts, seminars and workshops of every field.

International Folklore Festival “Baltica 2006” will take place from 12th to 16th July in Riga and Kurzeme region. The theme of the festival is “My Homeland”.
The participants will be mainly Latvian folklore groups and ethnographic ensembles -
111 groups in total. The festival will also have several guest groups from Baltic, European and Asian countries – Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Norway,
Chzech Republic, Nepal, Russia etc. The opening of the festival will take place in Sigulda Dainu Hill, closing ceremony – in Kuldīga. Events in regions will take place
in various cities and towns of Kurzeme region - Talsu region (Kolka, Dundaga), Ventspils region (Puze, Jūrkalne), Tukuma region (Milzkalne), Kuldīga region (Alsunga), Liepāja region (Bārta, Liepāja), Saldus region (Pampāļi), Cēsis, Jūrmala.

International Folklore Festival BALTICA 2006 Programme

Jāzeps Vītols Music Day will take place on 22nd July in Gaujiena “Anniņas” (Alūksne district).
Jāzeps Vītols Music Day is a traditional event which has gained joint resonance from Latvian choirs and will celebrate it’s 10th anniversary this year. Not only a festive concert but also camps for young musicians will take place. This festival is one of the rounds on the way to Latvian Song and Dance Celebration in 2008.

IX Latvian Amateur Theatre Get – together will take place from 4th to 6th August in Jēkabpils. The motto of the event is “Stop – hear – feel – react ...”.
The traditional get- together takes place once every 4 years. It could be called the “song and dance celebration” of amateur theatres. This year we will have an opportunity to watch the best performances and to participate in various theatrical events.
