Nearly 100’000 passengers served Tallinn Airport in January

99’339 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in January, which is 19% less than in January last year. Also 2563 aircraft movements (17% decrease) and 1787 tonnes of mail and freight (22% decrease compared to January 2007) were handled.

The decline in global demand is also admitted by International Air Transport Association (IATA). In December the passenger figures declined in most European airports, only one of every five airports experienced some growth. The global air cargo traffic has been most affected by the economic crisis as global air cargo volumes dropped by 22,6% in December compared to the period a year ago, reflecting the slowdown in world trade.

In January direct scheduled routes to 19 European destinations were served from Tallinn Airport, as well as two domestic routes to the islands of Hiiumaa (Kärdla) and Saaremaa (Kuressaare). The most popular destinations were Helsinki, Copenhagen, Riga, London and Stockholm.

The most popular holiday destinations in January proved to be resorts in Egypt and Canary Islands, but also ski-resorts in the Alps. Long-haul charter destinations included India and Thailand.
