From March 1 to 9, the charming Sigulda, which is also Latvia’s winter sports capital and Riga’s official partner town during the European Capital of Culture Year, will host a winter festival with the slogan - "More sports. More leisure. More art. More entertainment."
Sigulda as the Latvian capital of winter sports allows everyone to enjoy breathtaking winter activities – whether it’s a ride down the bobsleigh and luge track or ski run, as well as Winter festival with both sports competitions and demonstrations, art exhibitions and workshops, concerts and theatre performances. Meet „Ice-track Stars and Kings” at Bobsleigh and Luge track „Sigulda”, watch competitions, enjoy snow sculpture festival and feel the rhythm of music in real winter party. III Latvian Winter Olympiad will be held during the festival. The festival will also have a wide ranging cultural and entertainment program, including several concerts and art projects.

One of the most interesting events to take place during the festival will be the ice/snow sculpture competition, which will gather professional artists, as well as students from local art academies throughout the country.
Furthermore, the Sigulda Winter Festival will intertwine with the traditional "Meteņi" festivities at Turaida Castle Park (next to Sigulda). During the day-long "Meteņi" festival, persons will be able to experience Latvian folk songs and dances, ancient pagan rituals, as well as traditional local food. "Meteņi" is a traditional pagan celebration dedicated to bidding farewell to the winter and welcoming the spring.
